Wagyu Beef Healthy

Wagyu beef is truly unique and amazing, with its exquisite, buttery mouth feel and all that gorgeous marbling. What may concern you is the impact on your health of so much fat. Is Wagyu beef healthy? You may be surprised by the answer.

Wagyu roast, briskets, ground beef, ribs, and steaks are all scrumptious cuts of meat. There’s no wrong way to buy Wagyu, and it’s worth every penny you pay. Why? Because along with all that delicious flavor, Wagyu offers actual health benefits.

In 2016, researched published in the National Institute of Health’s National Library of Medicine showed that Wagyu beef contains high amounts of monounsaturated fats, as compared to other meats. What does this mean? Monounsaturated fats are known as “good fats” because they help lower LDL cholesterol (the bad kind) and increase HDL cholesterol (the good kind). The same study indicated that Wagyu could potentially reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

What’s more, Wagyu contains amino acids like Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, which lower the risk not only of cardiovascular disease, but also Alzheimer’s, cancer, and other illnesses. The marbling in Wagyu also contains Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), which provides health benefits like lowering the risk of diabetes. And of course, like most meats, Wagyu has protein and iron that help carry oxygen through the body, maintain weight, and sustain energy. Another study from the same source, completed in 2009, even indicated that monounsaturated fats like those in Wagyu beef can aid in weight loss.

Are you sold on Wagyu beef now? You might be wondering how it compares to other meats. It will come as no surprise to you when we tell you that it stacks up favorably against pork, chicken, turkey, venison, and even fish. With a higher monounsaturated fat content than fish, Wagyu also contains less salt than fish, pork, chicken, turkey, and venison, and lower cholesterol than pork, chicken, and regular beef.
